Everybody wants favorable circumstances. But to make circumstances favorable, one has to go through so much struggle and suffering. Often they come at the cost of complete abandonment of internal joy. This outside seeking of satisfaction ultimately disconnects us from our true self and thus, inherently, all pursuits of happiness contain within them seeds of great suffering.
The way out is to become detached to the outer circumstances and find the true joy within that is always there. One can become detached to the outer circumstances when one finds the joy within. But one finds the inner joy within only when one detaches himself from the outer circumstances and focuses attention inwards. So, it’s a cycle, and we need to cater to both the things simultaneously – try to detach ourselves from outer circumstances as much as possible and turn attention inward as much as possible.
