This is an excerpt from the book “The Journey Home” By Radhanath Swami:
“Sitting on the bank of the Ganges one day after a talk with Mohammed, I inquired of Narayan Prasad, “How is it that you have so much affection for someone from another religion in a country where there is so much conflict between the two?”
With a warm smile, he said something I have never forgotten. ‘A dog will recognize his master in whatever way he dresses. The master may dress in robes, suit and tie, or stand naked, but the dog will always recognize his master. If we cannot recognize God, our beloved master, when he comes in a different dress from another religion, then we are less than that dog.'”
Guru Granth Sahib ji, the Sikh scripture, contains writings from Saints of different faiths: Hindus (Ramanand ji, Namdev ji), Muslims (Sheikh Farid ji, Kabir ji) and from different social classes, many of them from the lowest social class (Shudr). Guru Granth Sahib ji stands for the universality of the spirituality and the equality of the mankind.
ਏਕ ਨੂਰ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਉਪਜਿਆ ਕਉਨ ਭਲੇ ਕੋ ਮੰਦੇ ॥
From the One Light, the entire universe welled up. Then, who is good, and who is bad?
